13 March 2012	Campbell-Brown Defends World Indoor 60m Title 6 By “It is very important for me run a few 60m races indoor which will definitely prepare me for running the 100m outdoors,” said Jamaica’s sprinting sensation Veronica Campbell-Brown (VCB) during the earlier rounds of the 2012 world indoor championship. VCB went on to win the 2012 60m IAAF World Indoor title in a world-leading 7.01 seconds. VCB, who captured the 60m title in Doha in 2010 in a lifetime-best 7.00 seconds, has completed a superb 2012 indoor season that saw her winning the 50m (6.08 seconds) at the US Open in New York and finishing second to USA’s Tiana Madison in the 60m at the US Track Classic in Fayetteville, Arkansas. In capturing the gold medal, VCB was the only Jamaican to stand atop the podium in Istanbul. Other medal winners from the Caribbean included Nesta Carter (Jamaica) who was second in the men’s 60m in 6.54 seconds behind USA Justin Gatlin 6.46 seconds. 19 March 2012	Wariner, Spearmon and McCorory Win Season Debut 6 By The 2012 outdoor season officially started this past weekend and saw several elite athletes taking the top spots. At the TCU Invitational of Friday March 16th, Wallace Spearmon won the 100m in 10.06 (+ 2.8 ws) while Jeremy Wariner took the 200m in 20.66 (+2.6 ws). After the race, Wariner was quoted as saying the he is back and gold was his goal for the season. At the Wake Forest Open also on Friday night (March 16th) USA’s quarter-miler Francena McCorory took the top spot in the women’s 400m in a time of 52.58 seconds. Dwayne Extol (Jamaica) of the University of Alabama was 3rd in the 400m in 47.46 seconds at the Bulls Invitation at the University of South Florida on March 16th. At the UWI Invitational in Kingston Jamaica, Jermaine Gonzales won the 400m in 45.92 ahead of Allodin Fothergill (46.22) Rosemarie Whyte won the women’s 400m in 51.86 seconds ahead of Sherone Simpson 52.77 seconds....
27 March 2012	Kim Collins Wins Season Opener at the Alabama Relays 6 By Former 100m world champion, Kim Collins of St. Kitts, won his 100m season opener in 10.32 seconds at the 2012 Alabama Relays at the Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium on Saturday night, March 24. Collins, who has completed a very successful 2011 season after finishing 3rdin the 100m at Daegu World Championship, told the Alabama Crimson Tide website: “It’s an opportunity for me to race and it is a place where I have never race before so I am excited to try out a new track and atmosphere to see what success that may bring.” [caption id="attachment_774" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Kim Collins in Manchester 2011 (photo by Dan Vernon)"]
14 April 2012	Yohan Blake Makes Much Anticipated 2012 Debut Today 6 By Perhaps no other male sprinter had a more successful 2011 season thanJamaica’s Yohan Blake. The 23-year-old former St Jago high school standout became the youngest 100m world champion en route to establishing personal bests in the 100m (9.82) and 200m (19.26). He was an integral part of the Jamaican world record setting 4x1 relay team (37.04). With Usain Bolt having a down 2011 season, Blake seized the opportunity to propel himself into the stratosphere of sprinting and ended his 2011 season on a climatic note, running a scintillating 19.26 seconds in the 200m, the second fast time ever in that distance. During the offseason, Blake did television appearances, signed a few endorsement deals and launched his YB Afraid Foundation. New Season, New beginning Today, Yohan goes back to work by competing in the 100m at the UTech Classics in Kingston, Jamaica and could become the first sub-10 100m performer of the season. 14 April 2012	World leading Yohan Blake 9.90 (100m) & Racers Track Club 4x1 relay (37.82) 6 By World 200m champion Usain Bolt anchored his Racers 4x1 relay team to victory in a world-leading time of 37.82 seconds over the MVP track club at the UTECH Track Classic in Kingston, Jamaica tonight. The victorious Racers team of Mario Forsythe, Yohan Blake, Kimmari Roach and Bolt won on a very wet track. Blake ran a superb 2nd leg on the backstretch to break the race wide-open. Bolt got the baton ahead of Asafa Powell and extended the lead to stop the clock in 37.82. Racer Track Club world-leading 37.82 4x1 relay at UTECH Track Classic 4-14-12 Yohan Blake won the men’s 100m in a world-leading 9.90 seconds over Jacques Harvey (10.10) and Sheldon Mitchell (10.18) More to come ……....
