16 April 2011	A Stronger, Leaner Gavyn Nero Has London on His Mind 5 By His accomplishments at the junior level are unmatched. With 11 individual medals at the Carifta Games, highlighted by a personal best 3 minutes, 46.57 seconds in the 1500m and numerous mid-distance duels with some of the Caribbean region’s best junior runners, Trinidad and Tobago’s Gavyn Nero is perhaps the most decorated athlete to compete in the Games. In the summer of 2009, Gavyn – just out of high school and prior to starting classes at Baylor University in the US – competed in the CAC Games where he placed 3rd in the 800m in a personal best 1:47.51. He then strode into Baylor as one of the best junior mid-distance athletes to have come out of the Caribbean. And expectations were high for track fans, especially Trinidadians. 14 May 2011	Crimson Tide's Dwayne Extol on Road to Recovery 5 By At the prestigious 2010 Jamaica Boys and Girls Athletics Championships or “Champs 100”, Dwayne Extol lead his high school team, Wolmer’s Boys, to victory. The versatile Extol was instrumental in giving his team valuable points by competing in the 200m, 400m, 400m hurdles and the 4x1 and 4x4 relays. He will be remembered as the team captain who could have won gold in the 200m but eased up close to the line to allow teammate Julian Forte, who had earlier won the 100m title, to claim the sprint double. Extol later explained his decision to the media: "Julian had a problem with his hamstring and I could see he really wanted to win and I saw him pushing and pushing and I decided that we would still get the 16 points if I won or he won."
06 June 2011	7 Questions as the NCAA Championships Begin 5 By As the 2011 NCAA Track & Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa starts today, June 8, there are several intriguing questions floating around that will be answered when the dust settles on Saturday evening, the 11th. In the meantime, we cannot resist sharing our thoughts and predictions. Here are seven questions we have considered. 1. Can the Caribbean sweep the Men’s 400m? The men’s 400m is loaded with future Caribbean quarter-milers including Kirani James (Uinversity of Alabama/Grenada), Demetrius Pinder (Texas A&M/Bahamas), Tabarie Henry (Texas A&M/US Virgin Islands), Riker Hylton (LSU/Jamaica), and Zwede Hewitt (Baylor/ Trinidad). 24 September 2011	Long season took toll on NCAA Participants in Daegu 5 By The collegiate track and field season begins in December with the indoor season and ends with the NCAA Outdoor Championships in June for Division I programs. During this long six-month period, athletes have to adjust from the indoor setting to outdoors while competing in Conference championships for their colleges. The Championships are important as colleges offer scholarships to athletes with the desire to win conferences titles. Top athletes are called upon to compete in several events, including the relays, which can obviously take a toll on their bodies. Exhausted after the end of the NCAA season in mid-June, the athletes had two weeks to prepare for their national trials in late June to earn a spot on their national team to the World Championships, and had to stay sharp and focused for the next two months to perform at their best in Daegu.
