The 2024 World Under 20 Championship took place in Lima, Peru, at the Estadio Atletico de la Videna, between August 27 -31, 2024. It was the first time that the city of Lima hosted these Games. There was a total of 1,720 athletes representing 134 countries that participated in the Championship across 45 medal events. This review focuses on the podium finishers only.
Women’s Results
5000m Final
The continent of Africa swept the medals in the women’s 5000m final. Medina Aisa of Ethiopia won gold in a Championship Record time of 14:39.71, while her countrywoman Mekedes Alemeshete won silver in 14:57.44, and Charity Cherop of Uganda won bronze in 14:35.02.
Discus Throw Final
Bingyang Han of China threw 57.57m, to win gold in the women’s discus final, while her countrywoman Jingru Huang won silver in 56.47m and Marley Raikiwasa of Australia won bronze in 56.25m.
Long Jump Final
Delta Amidzovski of Australia won gold in the women’s long jump final, cutting the sand in 6.58m, while Sophia Beckmon of the USA won silver in 6.54m and Julia Adamczyk of Poland won bronze in 6.34m.
100m Final
The women’s 100m final was a Caribbean sweep, as Alana Reid of Jamaica won gold in 11.17, while Sophia Beckmon of the British Virgin Island won silver in 11.27 and Kishawna Niles of Barbados won bronze in 11.37.
Pole Vault Final
Molly Haywood of the USA cleared 4.47m, to win gold in the women’s pole vault final, while Magdalena Rauter of Austria won silver in 4.15m and Tryphena Hewett of Australia won bronze in 4.15m.
400m final
Lurdes Gloria Manuel of the Czech Republic won gold in the women’s 400m final in 51.29, while Dianna Proctor of Canada won silver in 51.98 and Zaya Akins of the USA won bronze in 52.00.
3000m Steeplechase Final
It was yet another clean sweep for the African continent, as Sembo Almayew of Ethiopia in 9:12.71, Loice Chekwemoi of Uganda in 9:18.84 and Diana Chepkemoi of Kenya in 9:29.84, won gold, silver and bronze, respectively.
10,000m race walk
Baima Zhuoma of China stopped the clock in 43:26.60, to win the women’s 10,000m race walk, while her countrywoman Chen Meling won silver in 44:30.67 and Aarti of India won bronze in 44:39.39.
Shot Put Final
Akaoma Odeluga of the USA won the women’s shot put final in 17.34m, while Martina Mazurova of the Czech Republic won silver in 16.38m and Chiang Ching-Yuan of Taipei won bronze in 16.01m.
100m hurdles Final
Kerrica Hill of Jamaica posted 12.99, to win the women’s 100m hurdles final, while Mia Wild of Croatia won silver in 13.15 and Delta Amidzovski of Australia won bronze in 13.24. Indeed, it was Hill’s second consecutive title win in the event.
3000m Final
Aleshign Baweke of Ethiopia posted 8:50.32, to win gold in the women’s 3000m final the women’s, while Marion Jepngetich of Kenya won silver in 8:52.37 and Marta Alemayo of Ethiopia won bronze in 8:53.64.
Javelin Throw Final
Yan Ziyi of China won gold in the women’s javelin throw final in 63.05m, while Chu Pin-Hsun Taipei won silver in 54.28m and Evelyn Bliss of the USA won bronze in 54.01m.
200m Final
Adaejah Hodge of the British Virgin Island won gold in the women’s 200m final in 22.74, while Torrie Lewis of Australia won silver in 22.88 and Shanoya Mikalia Douglas of Jamaica won bronze in 23.10.
High Jump Final
Angelina Topic of Serbia cleared 1.91m, to win gold in the women’s high jump final, while Izobelle Louison-Roe of Australia won silver on the count back in 1.89m and Karmen Bruus of Estonia won bronze in a similar 1.89.
400m Hurdles Final
Meta Tumba of France posted 55.59, to win gold in the women’s 400m final, while Wiktoria Gadajska of Poland won silver in 56.87 and Hannah van Niekerk of the Republic of South Africa won bronze in 56.98.
1500m Final
Saron Berhe of Ethiopia won gold in the women’s 1500m in 4:16.64, while Rachel Forsyth of Canada won silver in 4:17.94 and Jolanda Kallabis of Germany won bronze in 4:19.34.
Triple Jump Final
Sharifa Davronova of Uzbekistan won gold in the women’s triple jump final, cutting the sand in 13.75m, while Li Yi of China won silver in 13.55m and Erika Giorgia Anoeta Saraceni of Italy won bronze in 13.47m.
4x100m Relay Final
The Jamaican quartet of Shanoya Mikalia Douglas, Alliah Baker, Briana Campbell and Alana Reid posted 43.39, to win gold in the women’s 4 x 100m final, while the Swiss quartet of Timea Rankl, Lia Thalmann, Chloe Rabac and Alicia Masini posted 44.06 for silver and the Canadian quartet of Savannah Blair, Dianna Proctor, Ashley Odiase and Renee Roxane Tedga stopped the clock in 44.60 for bronze.
Hammer Throw Final
Zhang Jiale of China won gold in the women’s hammer throw final in 68.95m, while Valentina Savva of Cyprus won silver in 67.21m and Villo Viszkeleti of Hungary won bronze in 64.94m.
4x400m Relay Final
The USA quartet of Michaela Mouton, Olivia Harris, Josie Donelson and Zaya Akins posted 3:30.74, to win gold in the women’s 4 x 400m final, while the Australian quartet of Amelia Rowe, Bella Pasquali, Jemma Pollard and Sophia Gregorevic won silver in 3:31.47 and the Great Britain and Northern Ireland quartet of Charlotte Henrich, Emma Holmes, Kara Dacosta and Rebecca Grieve stopped the clock in 3:32.80 for bronze.
Men’s Results
5000m Final
The results of the men’s 5000m final was somewhat similar to that of their female counterpart, as the continent of Africa swept the medals. Andrew Kiptoo of Kenya won gold in 13:41.14, while Abdisa Fayisa of Ethiopia won silver in 13:41.56 and Keneth Kiprop of Uganda won bronze in 13:41.73.
Shot Put Final (6kg)
Jarno Van Daalen of the Netherlands won gold in the men’s shot put final, with a throw of 20.76m, while JL Van Rensburg of the Republic of South Africa won silver with 20.74m and Georg Harpf of Germany won bronze with 20.28m.
100m Final
Bayanda Walaza of the Republic of South Africa stopped the clock in 10.19, to win gold in the men’s 100m final, while Puripol Boonson of Thailand won silver in 10.22 and Bradley Nkoana, also of the Republic of South Africa, won bronze in 10.26.
Triple Jump Final
Ethan Oliver of Australia won gold in the men’s triple jump final, cutting the sand in 17.01, while Karson Gordon of the USA won silver in 16.74 and Yinglong Ma of China won bronze in 16.30.
Javelin Throw Final
Tom Tersek of Slovenia won gold in the men’s javelin final, throwing 76.81m, while Xiaobo Wang of China won silver with 75.50m and Oisin Joyce of Ireland won bronze with 73.89m.
400m Final
Udeme Okon of the Republic of South Africa posted 45.69, to win gold in the men’s 400m final, while Jayden Davis of the USA won silver in 46.08 and Sidi Njie, also of the USA, won bronze in 46.29.
10,000m Race Walk Final
Rayen Cherni Tunisia won gold in the men’s 10,000m race walk final in a Championship Record of 39:24.85, while Emiliano Barba of Mexico won silver in 39:27.10 and Giuseppe Disabato of Italy won bronze in 39:31.25.
Pole Vault Final
Hendrik Muller of Germany won gold in the men’s pole vault, clearing 5.45m, while Yoshida Rikuya of Japan won silver in 5.40m and Jan Krcek of the Czech Republic won bronze in 5.30m.
800m Final
General Berhanu Ayansa of Ethiopia posted 2:00.36, to win gold in the men’s 800m final, while Peyton Craig of Australia won silver in 2:00.87 and Ochiai Ko of Japan won bronze in 2:01.04.
High Jump Final
Scottie Vines of the USA cleared 2.25m, to win the men’s high jump final, while Matteo Sioli of Italy won silver in 2.23m and Nakatani Kaisei of Japan won bronze in 2.19m.
Long Jump Final
Roko Farkas of Croatia won gold in the men’s long jump final, cutting the sand in 8.17m, while Luka Boskovic of Serbia won silver in 7.93m and Mason McGroder of Australia won bronze in 7.80m.

Ja'kobe Tharp of the USA won gold in the men’s 110m hurdles final in 13.05, while his countryman Andre Korbmacher won silver in 13.14 and Chen Yuanjing of China won bronze in 13.21.
200m Final
Bayanda Walaza of the Republic of South Africa won gold in the men’s 200m final in 20.52, to complete the sprint double, while Gout of Australia won silver in 20.60 and Jake Odey-Jordan of Great Britain won bronze in 20.81.

Bryce Ruland of the USA won gold in the men’s discus throw final with a throw of 62.59m, while Jarno van Daalen of the Netherlands won silver with 62.22m and Mico Lampinen of Finland won bronze with 62.20m.
400m Hurdles Final
Vance Nilsson of the USA won gold in the men’s 400m hurdles final in 49.26, while Michal Rada of the Czech Republic won silver in 49.30 and Antti Sainio of Finland won bronze in 49.61.
3000m Steeplechase Final
It was an all-African affair and quinella for Kenya, as Edmund Serem won gold in 8:15.28 in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final, while his countryman Matthew Kosgei won silver in 8:17.46 and Hailu Ayalew of Ethiopia won bronze in 8:24.08.
4x100m Final
The Jamaican quartet of Jace Witter, Gary Card, Nyrone Wade and Deandre Daley posted 39.18, to win the men’s 4 x 100m final, while the Great Britain & Northern Ireland quartet of Jake Odey-Jordan, Joel Masters, Dean Patterson and Teddy Wilson won silver in 39.20 and the Thai quartet of Wirayut Daenkhanob, Sarawut Nuansi, Chutithat Pruksorranan and Puripol Boonson won bronze in 39.39.
1500m Final
Abdisa Fayisa of Ethiopia won gold in the men’s 1500m final in 3:40.51, while Cameron Myers of Australia won silver in 3:40.60 and Alex Pintado of Spain won bronze in 3:41.03.
4x400m Relay Final
The USA quartet of Jayden Davis, Xavier Donaldson, Alexander Rhodes and Sidi Njie stopped the clock in 3:03.56, to win gold in the men’s 4 x 400m final, while the Republic of South Africa’s quartet of Bryan Katoo, Sihle Mahlangu, Njabulo Mbatha and Udeme Okon posted 3:05.22 for silver and the Australian quartet of Caleb Kilpatrick, Jett Grundy, Jack Deguara and Jordan Gilbert snatched bronze in 3:05.53.
4x400m Mixed Relay Final
The Australian quartet of Jordan Gilbert, Bella Pasquali, Jack Deguara and Sophia Gregorevic won gold in the 4 x 400m mixed relay final, stopping the clock in 3:19.27, while the Polish quartet of Jakub Szarapo,Wiktoria Gajosz,Stanisław Strzelecki and Zofia Tomczyk won silver in 3:20.44 and the People's Republic of China quartet of Haoran Fu, Yalun Wang, Ailixier Wumaier and Yinglan Liu won bronze in 3:21.27
