Warren Weir Runs 19.79 at Jamaican Trials

The reigning 200m Olympic bronze medalist Warren Weir brought the 2013 Jamaican Senior Championship to a climatic end on Sunday evening (June 23) when he won the men’s 200m in a superb time of 9.79 seconds. Weir’s time of 19.79 seconds (+0.9 ws) represents a personal best and ties him with Usain Bolt for the 2^nd fastest time in the world so far this year behind American Tyson Gay (19.74). Weir finished ahead of Nickel Ashmeade (20.06) and Jason Livermore (20.13). All three have booked their tickets to the World Championship in Moscow and will join Usain Bolt, the reigning world champion who received an automatic bye and did not compete in the 200m at the championship. Weir’s performance was very impressive as he ran an excellent curve to put away the rest of the field and could have gone faster had he not start his celebration within 15 meter of the finish line.
