The 2024 South-Eastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championship took place at Gainesville, Florida from Thursday, May 9, 2024, to Saturday, May 11, 2024. There was a total of fourteen universities on the women’s side, and thirteen universities on the men’s side that participated at the championship. The University of Arkansas amassed 110 points to secure their 34th SEC title. The Lady Tigers of LSU amassed 126 points to claim the women’s title. The championship was highlighted by impressive performances by Arkansas Nickisha Pryce who ran a collegiate record in the women’s 400m and LSU’s Brianna Lyston 10.91 meet record in the women’s 100m. University of Georgia’s Christopher Williams ran a meet record 44.05 in the men’s 400m while the Arkansas men won the 4x400 relay in a brisk 2:59.03. Below are selected highlights from the championship.
Men’s 100m Final – Wind: +0.6
Godson Oghenebrume of LSU posted 9.99, to win the men’s 100m final, while Wanya McCoy of Florida State University was second in 10.02 and TMars McCallum of Tennessee University was third in 10.03. The field was rounded-out by Myles Thomas of LSU in 10.04, Tarsis Orogot of Alabama University in 10.06, Jehlani Gordon of Georgia Tech University in 10.08, Kanyinsola Ajayi of Auburn University in 10.09 and Lance Laing of Arkansas University in 10.16. Favor Ashe of Auburn University did not start the race.
Women’s 100m Final – Wind: +0.3
Though appeared hurt, Brianna Lyston of Jamaica and LSU won the women’s 100m final in a Personal Best of 10.91 (+0.3), while Kaila Jackson of Georgia Tech University was second in 10.95 and Thelma Davis, also of Georgia Tech University, was third in 11.01. The field was rounded-out by Dennisha Page of Tennessee University in 11.10, Tima Godbless of LSU in 11.14, Jahniya Bowers of Ole Mississippi in 11.16, Jameesia Ford of South Carolina in 11.24, Cynteria James of South Carolina in 11.37 and Jacious Sears (suffered an injury) of Tennessee University in 11.73.
Men’s 110m Hurdles Final – Wind: +0.4
Ja’Kobe Tharp of Auburn University won the men’s 110m hurdles in 13.18, while Ja’Qualon Scott of Texas A&M was second in 13.40 and Connor Schulman, also of Texas A&M was third in 13.49. The field was rounded-out by Ahmad Young of Ole Mississippi University in 13.50, Jahiem Stern of LSU in 13.54, William Spencer Jr. of Arkansas University in 13.69, Elijah Morris of Arkansas University in 13.74 and David Warmington of the University of South Carolina in 13.77. Alexander Chukwukelu of Kentucky University false started.
Women’s 100m Hurdles Final – Wind: +0.8
Grace Stark of Florida State University won the women’s 100m hurdles final in 12.58, while Shani’a Bellamy and Leah Phillips of LSU posted 12.81 and 12.86 for second and third, respectively. The field was rounded-out by Alia Armstrong of LSU in 13.04, Jaiya Covington of Texas A&M in 13.05, Danae Nembhard of Auburn in 13.06, Destiny Huven of Arkansas University in 13.08 and Rosealee Cooper of Mississippi State University in 13.30. Sydney Clemens of LSU did not finish the race.
Men’s 200m Final – Wind: +1.0
Tarsis Orogot of Alabama University posted a nippy 19.75, to win the men’s 200m final, while Wanya McCoy of Florida State University was second in 19.93 and Makanakaishe Charamba was third in 20.00. The field was rounded-out by Lance Laing of Arkansas University in 20.04, Jordon Ware of Mississippi State University in 20.27, Tmars McCallum of Tennessee University in 20.34, Da’Marcus Fleming of LSU in 20.46, Nyck Habor of the University of South Carolina in 20.55 and Robert Gregory of Florida State University in 21.47.
Women’s 200m Final – Wind: +0.6
McKenzie Long of Old Mississippi Sate won the women’s 200m final in a fast 22.03, while JaMeesia Ford of South Carolina University was second in 22.11 and Thelma Davies of LSU was third in 22.17. Notwithstanding what appeared to be an injured Brianna Lyston, the 100m Champion posted 22.37 for fourth, which was her second-best time in the 200m. The field was rounded-out by Kaila Jackson of Georgia Tech University in 22.38, Dennisha Page of Tennessee University in 22.39, Nickisha Pryce of Arkansas University in 22.67 and Amber Anning of Arkansas University in 22.87. Due to an injury suffered in the 100m final, Jacious Sears did not start in the 200m final.
Men’s 400m Final
Christopher Morales Williams of Georgia Tech University won the men’s 400m final in an impressive 44.05, while Samuel Ogazi and Khaleb McRae of Alabama University posted 44.58 and 44.68 for second and third, respectively. The field was rounded-out by James Benson 11 of Arkansas University in 44.85, Auhmad Robinson of Texas A&M in 45.05, Emmanuel Bynun of Tennessee University in 45.40, Jevon O’Bryant of Texas A&M in 45.74, Jenoah McKiver of Florida State University in 45.74 and Hossam Hatib of Georgia Tech University in 46.04.
Women’s 400m Final
It was a clean sweep for Arkansas University! Nickisha Pryce of Jamaica and Arkansas University posted 49.32, to win the women’s 400m final, while her teammates Kaylyn Brown and Amber Anning posted 49.47 and 49.51 for second and third, respectively. The field was rounded-out by Aliyah Butler of Georgia Tech University in 49.79, Rosey Efflong of Arkansas in 50.75, Jermaisha Arnold of Texas A&M in 50.85, Briana White of Tennessee in 50.83, Ella Onojuvwevwo of LSU in 50.86 and Kimberly Harris of Georgia Tech University in 51.75.
Men’s 400m Hurdles Final
Chris Robinson of Alabama University won the men’s 400m hurdles in 48.43, while Rasheeme Griffith and Jakwan Hale of Tennessee University were second and third, respectively, in 49.24 and 49.54. The field was rounded-out by Bryce McCray of Texas A&M in 49.76, William Spencer Jr. of Arkansas University in 49.77, Corde Long of Alabama University in 50.17, Clayton Elder of Alabama University in 51.04 and Sean Burrell of LSU in 51.18. Clement Ducos of Tennessee University was disqualified.
Women’s 400m Hurdles Final
Gabrielle Mathews of Ole Mississippi won the women’s 400m hurdles final in 55.12, while Dominique Mustin of Georgia Tech University was second in 55.60 and Shani’a Bellamy of LSU was third in 56.40. The field was rounded-out by Allyria McBride of Vanderbilt University in 56.44, Gabril White of LSU in 57.58, Lea Phillips of LSU in 57.75, Nissi Kabongo of Texas A&M in 59.54, Rachel Glenn of Arkansas in 1:12.11 and Kyla Robinson-Hubbard of Tennessee University in 1:18.87.
Men’s 800m Final
Sam Whitmarsh of Texas A&M won the men’s 800m final in 1:45.27, while Anass Essayi of the University of South Carolina was second in 1:46.06 and Parvej Khan of Florida State University was third in 1:46.80. The field was rounded-out by Caden Norris of Texas A&M in 1:47.13, Kimar Farquharson of Texas A&M in 1:47.62, Sam Austin of Florida State University in 1:47.73, Louis O’Loughlin of Auburn University in 1:48.00, Tyrese Reid of Mississippi State University in 1:48.56 and Davis Plowden of Auburn University in 1:51.38.
Women’s 800m Final
Michaela Rose of LSU won the women’s 800m final in 1:58.89, while Sanu Jallow of Arkansas University was second in 1:59.29 and Sylvia Chelangat of the University of South Carolina was third in 2:01.23. The field was rounded-out by Sydney Steely of Kentucky University in 2:02.19, Lorena Rangel Batres of LSU in 2:03.36, Kelsey Schweizer of Missouri University in 2:03.93, Ka’Myya Haywood of Tennessee University in 2:03.98, Bryanna Lucas of Kentucky University in 2:04.92 and Mallory Streetman of Mississippi State University in 2:05.95.
Men’s 1500m Final
Parvej Khan of Florida State University won the men’s 1500m final in 3:42.73, while Max Hardin of Auburn University was second in 3:43.39 and Dalton Hengst of Tennessee University was third in 3:43.51. Doris Lemngole of Alabama University won the women’s Steeplechase in 9:28.21, while Elise Thorner of Florida State University was second in 9:43.20 and Laura Taborda of Arkansas University was third in 9:52.99. The top ten finishers were rounded-out by Teresa Cherotich of the University of South Carolina in 10:06.63, Kayla Gholar of Tennessee University in 10:15.30, Kennady Fontenot of Texas A&M in 10:18.66, Mackenzie Rogers of Arkansas University in 10:24.96, Callie Hardy of LSU in 10:29.37, Lilly Walters of Alabama University in 10:35.94 and Rylee Pustilnik of Florida State University in 10:39.36.
Men’s High Jump Final
Romaine Beckford of Jamaica and Arkansas University won the men’s high jump final, clearing a height of 2.22m, while Kuda Chadenga of LSU was second with 2.19m and Arvesta Troupe of Ole Mississippi University was third with a clearance height of 2.14m. The field was rounded-out by Carter Bajoit of Texas A&M in 2.14m, Grant Campbell of Tennessee University in 2.09m,Kason O’Riley of Arkansas University in 2.09m, Khristian Watson of Alabama University in 2.09m, Nathanil Figgers of South Carolina University in 2.09m, Channing Ferguson of South Carolina University in 2.09m, Isaac Onuoha of LSU in 2.09m, Ji’eem Bullock of LSU in 2.09m and Guy Bond of Ole Mississippi University in 2.04m. Elena Kulichenko of Georgia Tech University cleared 1.95m to win the women’s high jump final, while Rachel Glenn of Arkansas University was second in 1.92m and Lamar Distin of Texas A&M was third in 1.89m.
