As we look ahead with great anticipation, to the McCook/Gibson Relays, the ISSA Boys and Girls Championship (Champs) and the World Championship in Budapest, Hungary, later this year, several local, regional and international preparatory and qualifying meets will take place over the month of January and February, commencing this weekend. There are several scheduled approved JAAA meets that will signal the start of what should be a very exciting and interesting track and field season for both junior and senior athletes. These Meets include, but are not limited to the following:
OnDiRun/JC 200m Sprint Fest#1
On Di Run/JC 200m Sprint Fest#1 will take place on Friday, January 6. 2023, at the Jamaica College, Ashenheim Stadium, at 189 Old Hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica. The meet will feature athletes over the half lap event (200m).
The Purewater/Jamaica College/R. Danny Williams Meet
The 26th staging of the Purewater/Jamaica College/R. Danny Williams Meet will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Jamaica College Ashenheim Stadium, situated at 189 Old Hope Road, Kingston, Jamaica.
The Purewater/Jamaica College/R. Danny Williams Meet is one of the many JAAA’s approved meets that has traditionally kick-started or signaled the start of the local track and field seasons, where hundreds of high school and club athletes from all over the island will converge.
The First Chance Meet
The First Chance Meet will take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023, on the upgraded grass track at the Herbert Morrison Technical High School. This meet will feature high school athletes based predominantly from the western end of Jamaica. Athletes from the Excelsior High school have always participated in this event.
Ted Dwyer Classic and Pentathlon Challenge
The Ted Dwyer Classic and Pentathlon Challenge will also take place on Saturday, January 7, 2023, on the grounds of the Excelsior High School, 137 Mountain View Avenue, Kingston, Jamaica.
The Douglas Forrest Invitational Meet
The 16th staging of the Douglas Forrest Meet will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Training. Many of the island’s best high school athletes are expected to participate in the meet. Meet Organizer Brian Smith, has said that everything is in place for a successful meet.
The JAAA/PUMA Fuller Anderson Meet
The JAAA/PUMA Fuller Anderson Meet will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at Windalco-Kirkvine, Manchester.
Manchester High/Charlie Fuller Field Events Meet
The Annual Manchester High/Charlie Fuller Events Meet will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2023, on the grounds of the Manchester High School.
OnDiRun/G.C. Foster Sprint Fest
OnDiRun/G.C. Foster Sprint Fest will take place on Friday, January 20, 2023, at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Training.
Central Hurdles, Throws and Relays
Central Hurdles, Throws and Relays will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the G.C. Foster College of Physical Education and Training.
The McKenley/Wint Track and Field Classic
The annual McKenley/Wint Track and Field Classic will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Calabar High School, 61 Red Hills Road. The event will start at 8:30AM, and finish at 5.00PM. The meet is a major staple on the on the local high school track and field calendar.
St. Elizabeth Invitational Meet
The St. Elizabeth Invitational Meet will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023, in Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth.
The Queens/Grace Jackson Meet
The Queen’s/Grace Jackson Meet will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at the Stadium East Field, starting at 8:30 am, and finishing at 6:30pm. The 2023 edition of the meet will be the 21st staging. Past student of the Queen’s High school and Olympian, Grace Jackson is the meet’s patron.
International and Regional Meets
NACAC XC Championship
The NACAC XC Championship will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2023, in San Salvador, El Salvador.
Karl hue – IAAF Indoor Meet
The Karl hue -IAAF Indoor Meet will take place on Friday, January 27, 2023, in Germany
Meets for February
JAAA/PUMA/JAMALCO 2023 Puma Track Meet
The JAAA/PUMA/JAMALCO 2023 Puma Track Meet will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Jamalco grounds, Clarendon.
Eastern Invitational Track and Field Meet
The Eastern Invitational Track and Field Meet will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in Lysson, St. Thomas.
Youngster Goldsmith Invitational Meet
The Youngster Goldsmith Invitational Track Meet will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the Stadium East Field.
Camperdown Classics
The Camperdown Classic will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the National Stadium.
King of the Ring
King of the Ring will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Excelsior High School.
Western Milo Relays
Western Milo Relays will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.
Western Champs – Boys Qualifier
Western Champs – Boys Qualifier will take place on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Cornwall College, St. James.
Western Champs – Girls Qualifier
Western Champs – Girls Qualifier will take place on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Technical High School, St. Elizabeth.
Western Champs – Finals
Western Champs – Finals will take place on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Technical High School, St. Elizabeth.
International Meets

The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2023, in Boston, USA.
Milrose Game
The Milrose Games will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023, in New York, USA.
