Jehue Gordon sizzles to capture 400m hurdles title
Twenty-one-year old Jehue Gordon from Trinidad and Tobago captured the men’s 400m hurdles title in a personal best and world time of 47.69 seconds. Gordon, who finished 4th at the 2009 World Championship in Berlin as a 17-year-old was able to beat a great field of hurdlers on his way to winning his 1st senior world title.  American Michael Tinsley finished a closed second in a personal best time of 47.70 seconds while Serbia’s Emir Bekric was third in a national record time of 48.05 seconds.  Gordon, a full–time student at the University of the West Indies, is a having a superb second half to his 2013 season since he was able to focus fully on track and field once classes ended in late May. Perhaps Gordon’s rise to the top of the podium was expected as his coaching staff did an excellent job getting him to peak at the right time. In an interview with TrackLedger.com back in May-13, Gordon pointed out that he is still learning how to run the 400m hurdles. Gordon said “Not because you are fast and strong, it doesn’t mean that you are going to do well on the hurdles. It’s about rhythm, tempo and maturity in the event.” Gordon rise to the top of the podium at major championship was a long time coming as he had displayed such great promise as a junior. Well-Deserved Victory Gordon was also invited to attend the Michael Johnson High Performance Center in Texas earlier this year, where he did some diagnostic test to identify some of the things he needed to work on.  His victory today shows that he is finally learning how to run the 400m hurdles. Gordon victory certainly gives the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago a reason to cheer and celebrate as they come to terms with the recent doping infractions committed by medal hopeful Kelly-Ann Baptiste and Semoy Hackett. With gold medal in hand, Gordon could be considered for a spot on the Trinidad & Tobago’s men’s 4x400m relay team that will contest the finals after running a season best 3:00.48 in the heats.  400m Hurdles Results
