Record-setting Day at NJCAA Champs for Levy, Goule

Levy The Jamaican duo of Jura Levy and Natoya Goule set national records in their respective events to lead the South Plains College Lady Texans to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) indoor title at Texas Tech University on March 4 & 5. The Lady Texans easily won the title with 180.5 points, ahead of Central Arizona (88 points). Levy, the Vere Technical high school (Jamaica) graduate, captured the 200m title in a record time of 23.10secs, and clocked 6.81secs to defend her 55m title.

Levy, who is in her final year at South Plains, is heavily recruited by all of the major Division I programs. Natoya Goule, the freshman sensation, continues her record-breaking trend by capturing the 600m (1:26.90) and the 800m (2:05.79). Her time of 2:05.79 in the 800m represents a new NJCAA record. The Manchester High School (Jamaica) graduate’s winning time of 1:26.90 in the 600m is significantly slower than the 1:18.82 she established on January 21 this year. Goule now holds NJCAA indoor records in the 600m (1:18.82), 800m (2:05.79) and 1000m (2:44.73).

Other outstanding performances by Caribbean athletes include Grenada’s Janelle Redhead who captured the women’s 400m in 54.90secs ahead of countrywomen Kanika Beckles (55.37) of Essex County College (NJ). Redhead also finished second in the 200m (23.69) behind teammate Jura Levy. Jamaica’s Shanekia Hall, representing Essex County College, won the 55m Hurdles in 7.71secs.
