TrackLedger.com Q & A - Luguelin Santos

Luguelin Santos of the Dominican Republic has put together a very  impressive season so far.  This past weekend at the adidas Grand Prix, the 18 year-old Santos took first place in the 400m in a time of 45.24 seconds, ahead of American Jeremy Wariner (45.30) and Bahamian Chris “Fireman Brown (45.35). Santos has a lifetime and season best of 44.45 seconds in the 400m which he established in Hengelo on May 27^th. TrackLedger.com caught up with the talented Santos after his victory in New York. TrackLedger: How you feel about what you are doing this year on the track? Santos: “I feel very emotional.” TrackLedger: Do you expect to be this good at such a young age? Santos: “No, I didn’t.” TrackLedger: How do you feel about running against LaShawn Merritt and Jeremy Wariner and doing so well? Santos: “I know I can run at this level because I want to make the Olympic team for my country, the Dominican Republic.” TrackLedger: Where do you get your confidence to compete at track? Santos:  “Nobody in my family runs [track] only me. My confidence comes from my trainer [coach].” TrackLedger: Who inspired you to run track, since the Dominican Republic is more famous for baseball? Santos: “I don’t like baseball. My cousin got me into running track.” TrackLedger: How fast do you think you can run the 400m? Santos: “I am working on running the world record [43.18].” TrackLedger: How prepared are you for the Olympics and how do you feel about the Jamaicans who you are competing against?
