Warren Weir on the verge of stardom
“I think the trials [Jamaican] is harder than some of the races on the circuit because every round is a hard round, there is no easy round,” said 22-year-old Warren Weir, who will be ready to contest for a spot on the Jamaican 200m team to London 2012.  Weir continued “I am feeling pretty good, I am having a good season and I am pretty confident going into the trials.”  Weir is having a breakthrough season; he established a lifetime best of 20.08 seconds in the 200m at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York on June 9. As a member of the Racers Track Club and under the tutelage of coach Glen Mills, Weir has shown remarkable improvement this season and is the 3rd fastest Jamaican over 200m, behind Yohan Blake (19.91) and Nickel Ashmeade (19.94). Training and mental preparation for trials “I am not making any predictions but I am expecting to make the Jamaican team,” said Weir, who is in his 2nd year on the professional circuit. Weir pointed out that training with Bolt and Blake at Racers Track Club has its benefits. “Some may think that it is intimidating but to be training with the gods of track and field is a blessing in disguise because we all support each other.” he said. Weir also stated that he is ready for the Jamaican trials and that his improvement this year is due to “strengthening the weak areas, working on his techniques and just following the instructions provide by coach Mills.” Focus only on the 200m “Coming out of New York with a personal best, I must say that my confidence level is growing some more,” said Weir, who stated that he was always a confident person and that he just needed to stay focus. Weir, who has a personal best of 10.51 seconds in the 100m and had represented Jamaica in the 110m hurdles at the 2008 IAA F World Junior championship, is scheduled to contest only the 200m at the Jamaican Trials. When asked about his desire to go sub-20, Weir said, “hopefully we will get there soon”
