Kirani James & Fireman Brown 1-2 in London Diamond League 400m

Grenada’s Kirani James used a strong kick in the final 30m to hold off a charging Chris “Fireman” Brown and Tony McQuay to take the men’s 400m race at the London Diamond League in a time of 44.85 seconds. James finished ahead of Bahamas’s Fireman Brown, who established a season best 44.95 seconds, with the American  McQuay in third in 45.00 seconds. With just three weeks to go for the Olympics Games in London, James who has a season best 44.72 seconds which he established in his return to Daegu earlier this year, is certainly establishing himself as one of the favorite to medal at the Olympics along with American LaShawn Merritt who has the world leading time of 44.12 seconds. Lemaitre goes sub-20 in the men’s 200m France’s Christophe Lemaitre won the men’s 200m in a season best 19.91 seconds ahead of the Netherland Antilles’s Churandy Martina (19.95) and Jamaica’s Marvin Anderson (20.55). Lemaitre, who has a personal best 19.80 which he set in the 2011 Daegu world championship has run a few 200m this season in the hope of saving himself for the Olympics, where he will be pursuing the sprint double. Martina has a season best 19.94 seconds which he  established back in June  in New York. Shelly-Ann stumbles in 100m, Blessing wins. Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce stumbled out of the starting blocks and jogged the rest of the race while Nigerian Okagbare Blessing won the women’s 100m in 11.01 seconds ahead of the American duo of Carmelita Jeter (11.03) with Tianna Madison 11.13 seconds. Trinidad wins men’s sprint relay in 38.23. The Trinidad and Tobago quartet of Marc Burns, Emmanuel Callender, Rondell Sorrillo and Richard “Torpedo” Thompson won the men’s sprinter relay in a brisk time of 38.23 seconds  in rainy conditions. The Netherland was 2^nd in 38.70 with Poland in 3^rd in 37.78 seconds. Christine Ohuruogu won the women’s 400m in a season best 50.42 seconds over Amantle Montsho (50.56) and Jamaica’s Rosemarie Whyte (51.19). Christian Taylor won the men’s triple jump with a monster leap of 17.41m over Bahamas’s Levan Sands (16.97m).
