Tyson Gay could Shock the World

The belief among most track fans is that the two top spots in the 100m at the upcoming  London Oympics is already secured by the Jamaican duo of Usain Bolt  and Yohan  Blake  and that the true  battle will be  for the bronze medal. There is no doubt that Bolt and Blake are well-deserving of the respect based on their body of work.  However,  American Tyson Gay may be the best prospect of upsetting  both Bolt and Blake. Gay is Back and Fully-Recovered The 29 year old Gay is having a great 2012 season after experiencing  a premature end to his 2011 season in which he was unable to compete at the 2011 Daegu world  championship due to injury. After undergoing three surgeries, most athletes would have just quit the sports, but not Tyson Gay.  Gay made  his much anticipated 2012 season debut in New York on June 9th, running 10.00 seconds in the 100m. He has subsequently lowered his season best to 9.86 seconds and has the distinction of  defeating  perhaps the hottest American sprinter and reigning  World Indoor 60m champion Justin Gatlin in their head-to-head battle. In his post-race conferences Gay have insisted that he is fully-recovered and is  running pain-free. His acceleration during the  mid to latter phases of his race is simply superb and given a good start in London,  and running a well-executed  race,  Gay may just shock the world. In Pursuit of the Elusive Olympic Sprint Title Gay had pointed out that it will take a 9.7 second  performance to medal in London.  He established his personal best 9.69 seconds in the 100m to set the American national record  in Shanghai in 2009 and ran 9.71 seconds behind Bolt world record 9.58 performance at the 2009 Berlin world championships. Gay had captured the sprint double title at the 2007 Osaka world championship, but has failed to secure the elusive  individual Olympic sprint title.  Based on his body of work this season, Tyson seems poised to again run sub 9.7 seconds for his first Olympic sprint title. Ready to Shock the World Gay who has a lifetime best 19.58 seconds in the 200m, will not be pursuing the sprint double in London  and instead will focus only on the 100m.  Bolt and Blake will be pursuing the sprint double in London.  A focused Gay who is well respected in the Caribbean track community (attending VCB wedding in Jamaica, doesn't engage in trash-talking)  has the resume, is in good shape and may use London 2012  as the perfect venue to shock the world.   Like us on  Facebook Follow us on Twitter
