Noah Lyles is Here to Dominate

“I’m here… I’m here to dominate,” was the unapologetic statement made by Noah Lyles in an interview following his scintillating performance in the 200m at the 2018 Prefontaine Classic (“Pre”). Lyles posted a lifetime best time of 19.69 seconds (+2.0m/s) to take the win. The 20-year-old Lyles ran a superb curve to take command of the race heading into the home-stretch before powering away from the rest of the field. Noah finished ahead of Trinidad & Tobago’s Jereem Richards (20.05) and Canada’s Aaron Brown (20.07). The Batswana Isaac Makwala, who was one of the favorites to win the event, pulled up injured. Lyles winning time of 19.69 seconds ties the world-leading time set by South Africa’s Clarence Munyia on March 16. The 2018 edition of the Prefontaine Classic (Pre) set for Haywood Field in Eugene, Oregon on May 25-26, will feature some of the hottest athletes on the planet. The Pre is the 3rd leg of the Diamond League season following stops at Doha and Shanghai. The Pre will feature its marque event, the Bowerman Mile. With key match-ups of Allyson Felix vs Shaunae Miller-Uibo and Omar McCleod vs Orlando Ortega, the Pre is set to excite. Felix vs Miller-Uibo Reigning Olympic 400m champion Miller-Uibo will put her 2018 winning streak on the line when she goes up against a very competitive field including the American trio of Allyson Felix, Phyllis Francis and Courtney Okolo. Miller-Uibo is coming off an impressive win at the Boost Boston Games, winning the 150m race in a world record 16.23 seconds. The 124th running if the Penn Relays will see the annual battle between the USA athletes and the rest of the world in particular the Jamaicans. With the likes of powerhouses Calabar High and Edwin Allen high, the champion schools at the 2018 Jamaican Championships, matching strides against some of the best USA high schools, the matchup are intriguing. Former IAAF World Youth 400m champ Christopher Taylor, will seek double gold in both the High school Boys 4x400m and 4x 100m relays.....

Records Aplenty at the 2018 New Balance Indoor Nationals

Arria Minor, a junior from Denver East High School in Colorado, captured the girls 400m title at the New Balance 2018 National Indoor Track and Field Championship held at the Armory, New York over the weekend (March 9-11). Arria, who has a personal best time of 52.05 seconds in the 400m, stopped the clock at 52.74 seconds to take the victory ahead of Alexis Holmes (53.63; Hamden, CT) and Kimberly Harris (53.77; Suwanee, GA). The talented quarter-miler is coached by Steven Kipper. Arria is the 2017 Colorado girl track and field athlete of the year is again favored to repeat. Herron's Dominance The 400m boys champion was Brian Herron who stopped the clock in 46.31 seconds, ahead of Nicholas Ramsey (46.78; Snellville, GA) and Trey Johnson (46.99; Fayetteville, GA). Akeem Bloomfield Claims SEC 400m Indoor title

In only his second year at Auburn University, Akeem Bloomfield captured the men's 400m indoors title at the SEC Indoor Championship held at College Station, Texas over the weekend (February 24-25). The 20 year-old Kingston College graduate stopped the clock in a time of 45.22 seconds, the 5th fastest time in the world so far this season. Bloomfield is also credited with having the 3rd fastest time in the world after running a personal best 45.02 seconds in the 400m at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational on February 9, 2018. After experiencing an erratic indoor season last year, Bloomfield is finally adjusting to the indoor environment. Bloomfield’s victory on Sunday represents his first indoor SEC title. After the race, Bloomfield smiled and waved to the crowd, and seemed very satisfied with his performance. Miller-Uibo, Baker, Korir & Wilson-led USA 4x800m Sparkle at Millrose

The 111th staging of the Millrose Games, held at the Armory in New York this past weekend, was simply record-breaking. Athletes geared-up for qualification and selection to their country’s team to the 2018 World Indoor Championship that is set for Birmingham, England, March 1 -4. Miller-Uibo display her quality Bahamas’s Shaunae Miller-Uibo equaled the women’s 300m with a world-leading time of 35.45 seconds. Miller-Uibo finished ahead of Canada’s Sage Watson (37.08) and USA’s Jaide Stepter (37.23). The reigning Olympic 400m champ seized control of the race from the outset and spent the last 150m running against the clock. In her post-race interview, Miller-Uibo pointed out that since that is a non-championship year [no Summer Olympics or World Outdoor Championship], the focus is on having fun with the 200m and the 400m.
