Statement by Sherone Simpson This is a very difficult time for me. I was notified on July 14, 2013 that my urine sample taken at the National Senior Championship, June 21, 2013 after the 100m finals returned a positive analytical finding for a stimulant, oxilofrine (methylsynephrine). As an athlete, I know I am responsible for whatever goes into my body. I would not intentionally take an illegal substance of any form into my system. I want to sincerely say to my family (especially my parents, grandparents and siblings), Paul Doyle (agent), MVP track club, fellow athletes, former sponsors and the rest of Jamaica that l am deeply sorry for any hurt or embarrassment this positive test may have caused. Time to Help Athletes Comply with Anti-Doping Rules

In light of the recent positive drug testing of several high-profile athletes, including former 100-meter world-record holder, Asafa Powell and Tyson Gay, the fastest American runner over the 100-meter event, it is time for the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Track and Field and private businesses to work together to come up with a system that will prevent athletes from becoming ensnared in the tangled field of drug compliance. Currently, we hear the statement that athletes are responsible for what goes into their body. In principal, it is valid but in reality it is very difficult to attain or should we say, very difficult to not step outside the boundary of drug compliance.
