Category:Professional       By O’Neil A. Reid    Posted on :2/2/2014
debbie-ferguson-mckenzie- Southern Mississippi University“The fact that the IAAF World Relays will be held in my hometown is great… people will be competing on my home track and I am very excited about that,” said the recently retired Bahamian sprinter Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie.  Debbie continued “I am planning on competing at the World Relays as I would like to compete at the stadium that was named in honor of my godfather, Thomas A. Robinson.” The inaugural IAAF World Relays is set for the Bahamas on May 24-25, 2014.  Debbie who appeared on the Sports Zone with the Professor Show last Tuesday night (January 28) spoke of her desire to participate in the world relays and that she is training herself for the big event. Coach Debbie Debbie, who is currently an assistant track coach at Southern Mississippi University, also stated that she was adjusting well to life as a coach. “As with everything you do, whether being an athlete or a coach … you have to start at the bottom, I am learning and growing and adjusting well as a coach because I do know a lot. At first it was nerve-wrecking but I am adjusting well.” Reaction to the Cancellation of Chris Brown Invitational With regards to the recent cancellation of the 2014 Chris Brown Invitational, Debbie said “I was heart-broken when I heard of the cancellation… I know that Chris [Brown] was working hard to put it together and I was very disappointed with the reason for the cancellation.”  The meet was cancelled because resurfacing work scheduled for the Thomas A. Robinson stadium in preparation for the world relays conflicted with the timing of the Chris Brown meet. This would have been the second staging of the Chris Brown Invitational which enjoyed tremendous success in its first year. Debbie also spoke of Shaunae Miller and Anthonique Strachan as the future of Bahamas female sprinting as well as the recent retirement of her Golden Girl teammate Chandra Sturrup.   Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie Interview with the Professor (Jan 28, 2014) Click on the link for the complete interview with the Professor.     Like us on  Facebook Follow us on Twitter
