University of Connecticut (Uconn) senior Trisha-Ann Hawthorne continues her sprinting dominance in the Big East Conference by capturing the 60m (7.26) and 200m (23.86) titles at the Big East Indoor Championships at Akron Ohio over the weekend. She led her team to a second place finish (108.5 points) behind winner University of Louisville (110 points). Trisha’s time of 7.26 established a new Conference record and has qualified her for the NCAA Indoor Championship next month.
“I am very excited about winning the sprint doubles but I am very disappointed that we loss the Conference titles by 1.5 points” she said.   In winning the sprint double titles, Trisha has not lost an individual indoor sprint title since finishing second in the 60m in her freshman year. Trisha so far has claim over 12 individual Conference titles and holds all of Uconn’s indoor and outdoors sprint records (55m to 200m). Commenting on her new 60m record run Trisha said “It feels great to run such a faster time. But I know that I can go faster. However, there are a lot of things that I have to work on before National [NCAA].”  Trisha feels her impressive indoor season so far is setting her up to have a great outdoor season. “Having a good indoor season gives me a lot of confidence and since this is a World Championship year, I want to go into the outdoor season meeting qualifying standards and getting ready for the upcoming trial [National] in the summer” So what are Trisha’s goals for her senior season?  “I want to run very fast and I want to be on the podium at Nationals. I have done well in the Big East Conference, but I want to have a top-three finish at Nationals” Up next for Trisha is the ECAC Championship to be held the weekend of March 5th
