Gordon Takes Aim at 200m National Record Tonight

Category:Professional       By O’Neil A. Reid    Posted on :1/18/2013
It is early in the 2013 track and field season but Trinidad and Tobago’s Lalonde Gordon put the track world on notice when he ran an impressive time of 32.48 seconds in the 300m last weekend at the Gotham Cup at the Armory in New York City. Gordon time of 32.48 seconds represents the 9th fastest 300m indoor time ever. Tonight at the Armory, Gordon will compete in his first 200m of the season and will be aiming to improve on his personal best time of 20.58 seconds. Ato Boldon, the former athlete, now NBC sports commentator, has the fastest 200m indoor time of 20.35 seconds by a Trinidadian athlete, which he established in 1997. Based on the ease in which he ran the 300m last weekend, Gordon is in line to surpass Ato’s mark. “Last weekend I entered Lalonde in the 300m just to see where he was with his training,” said Trevor Green, Lalonde coach at the Zenith Velocity Track Club. Green continued “I am very happy with his time, although I felt he could have gone faster.” Coach Green pointed out that for the remainder of the indoor season, Lalonde will be competing in 4 more races (2- 200m and 2– 400m), starting with the first of the two 200m tonight at the Armory.
