Reigning Olympic 100m silver-medalist Yohan Blake ran a personal best 9.69 second in the men’s 100m at the Lausanne Diamond League, in Switzerland. The 23-year-old Blake, who had a previous lifetime best time 9.75 seconds, used an explosive start to run away with the event. American Tyson Gay was 2nd in 9.83 while Blake’s fellow countryman Nesta Carter finished in 3rd place in a season best 9.95 seconds. The fast improving American Ryan Bailey was 4th in 10.00 seconds.
Blake, who is known as the “Beast” because of his extensive workout regiment in the gym, has clearly separated himself from the pack as the second fastest man in the world behind his trainer partner, Usain Bolt.
The city of Birmingham, England will however miss out on the opportunity to see the Beast in action this Sunday (August 26) as it was reported that Blake felt insulted by the $40,000 fees that was offered by the Birmingham Diamond League organizers and will not compete.
